ZTE gains no. 2 world ranking for WLANs shipped

CHINA: ZTE Corp. announced that it has been ranked No. 2 in the world in WLAN access point shipments.

According to the March 19 Gartner-published, “Market Share: Enterprise WLAN Equipment, Worldwide, 4Q12 and 2012,” ZTE held No. 2 world market share in the WLAN “coordinated access point” category at 12 percent after it shipped 1 million units during the year.

The rapid development of ZTE’s WLAN solution is a benefit of its long-term focus on R&D and in-depth understanding of customer requirements. The explosive growth of mobile Internet has aided the application of Wi-Fi from enterprise networks to carrier networks. In turn, China Mobile has defined WLAN as its fourth network. To date, more than 3.7 million APs have been deployed, and in some provinces, WLAN bears nearly 80 per cent of the total data traffic. ZTE now accounts for approximately one-third of these.

Based on its leading-edge data network technologies and 3G/LTE technologies, ZTE has created innovative solutions to provide radio backhaul for WLAN by using 3G/LTE networks. It also provides Wi-Fi signals to users through TD-SCDMA or TD-LTE transport networks. This solution has been deployed by China Mobile in buses and subways and allows mobile phones with different systems to utilize a converged TD-SCDMA network.

To date, ZTE has obtained hundreds of WLAN-related patents, over ten WLAN prototype systems and created more than 100 WLAN solutions, covering radio, core network and services.
