Sycamore expands packet capabilities of SN 9000

USA: Sycamore Networks Solutions, Inc., a Marlin Equity Partners portfolio company, announced the introduction of Layer 2 packet switching capabilities for its SN 9000 Intelligent Multiservice Switching platform.

The new Integrated Packet Exchange (IPX) solution extends the packet-optimized service features of the SN 9000 with node- and network-wide Ethernet switching capability, enabling service providers to more efficiently and cost-effectively deliver carrier-class Ethernet services while simultaneously supporting traditional TDM-based revenue traffic.

The SN 9000 Intelligent Multiservice Switch consolidates multiple network functions into a compact network element that enables end-to-end service provisioning and optical mesh protection via an industry-leading GMPLS control plane. Building upon the SN 9000’s versatile systems architecture, the IPX solution supports node-wide packet switching and is central to the establishment of an efficient and reliable network-wide packet layer.

The packet-optimized enhancements allow carrier-class Ethernet services to be efficiently aggregated and switched both locally and network wide. In addition, by enabling the economic aggregation of Ethernet and TDM service traffic on the same platform, the IPX solution eliminates the need for costly overlay aggregation networks.
