AIX-EN-PROVENCE, FRANCE: INSIDE Secure, a leader in semiconductor solutions for secure transactions and digital identity, announced that its SecuRead NFC platform is the first product in the industry to pass the new EMVCo Platform Security Evaluation Process and receive certification.
This certification provides assurance to mobile device manufacturers, mobile network operators and software developers that the SecuRead secure element and operating system have undergone and passed extensive security testing and will provide a robust security platform that is ready to accept major payment brands and other secure NFC applications. EMV is a global standard for credit and debit cards, and more than 1.3 billion EMV-compliant cards are in use today.
"We had encouraged EMVCo to establish this new Platform Security Evaluation Process as a way to streamline the certification process and are pleased to be awarded the first certification of this kind," said Bernard Vian, executive VP of NFC and payment solutions at INSIDE Secure. "We are also thankful to our technology partners, Infineon Technologies and Giesecke & Devrient, for their help in providing the embedded secure element and secure operating system used in the SecuRead module, and enabling us to deliver greater value by providing an NFC security platform with the highest level of trust."
SecuRead integrates a highly secure SLE 97-family embedded Secure Element from Infineon powered by a GlobalPlatform-compliant Java Card OS from Giesecke & Devrient with the award-winning INSIDE MicroRead NFC controller, and is complemented with the Open NFC protocol stack. This complete, single-package NFC solution makes it easier for manufacturers of NFC mobile phones, tablets and other devices to integrate all of the contactless, security and application functions required for a broad range of payment, identity, transport and access control applications, including virtual credit and debit cards, national or employee identity cards, healthcare program cards, boarding system and registered traveler programs, among others.
"We are delighted that we could contribute to this significant milestone with G&D's proven and recognized JavaCard OS solution Convego Join SE, and congratulate INSIDE Secure on this major achievement. G&D's rich security expertise will give consumers confidence that NFC payments will feature the high security levels they are used to from EMV banking cards today," said Willem Bulthuis, group senior VP, Mobile Security, Global Marketing and Sales at G&D. "We are proud to be involved in this cooperation for a highly integrated, embedded NFC solution and to have gained the first EMVCo composite certification for a mobile Java OS for embedded secure elements."
"SecuRead is the world's first EMVCo-certified platform enabling secure payment applications on smartphones," said Juergen Spaenkuch, VP and GM, platform security of Chip Card & Security Division at Infineon Technologies. "It is a milestone for promoting the acceptance and proliferation of NFC. The fact that the evaluation process is one recognized worldwide underlines the need for open solutions in the smartphone sector. Infineon supports this solution with its embedded Secure Element with the Open NFC interface DCLB (Digital Contact Less Bridge) and supports solutions using CIPURSE(tm), the open security standard for transit fare collection. We are delighted at the success of the collaboration with INSIDE Secure and Giesecke & Devrient."
