Avaya, Cisco lead unified communications market growth in Q3

REDWOOD CITY, USA: Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecom industries, reported that the unified communications market grew in the third quarter of this year, with over 70 percent of the reported vendors contributing to the market’s quarterly growth.

The top two Unified Communications vendors, Avaya and Cisco, each posted double digit revenue gains over the second quarter of this year.

“The second half of the year is typically stronger for the Enterprise Voice market, and the third quarter of this year was no exception for the Unified Communications segment,” commented Alan Weckel, Director at Dell’Oro Group.

“Although we expect vendors to experience strong fiscal year-end results in the fourth quarter of 2009 and 2010, we do not expect vendors’ fiscal year-ends to be as strong as they were prior to 2008 for quite some time,” Weckel added.

According to the report, IP phones grew 10 percent during the quarter with contributions from all IP phone segments, which include IP conference, IP desk, IP soft, and IP WLAN phones. Although third-party IP desk phones continue to gain traction, the top eight IP desk phone vendors -- Aastra, Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Cisco, Mitel, NEC, Nortel, and Siemens -- are also the top eight PBX vendors.
