Beceem releases 4G smartphone toolkit at CTIA

CTIA, LAS VEGAS, USA: Beceem Communications, a leading provider of 4G semiconductor solutions, and D2 Technologies, a leading provider of embedded IP communications software platforms, announced the availability of a reference design for Android mobile devices that delivers 4G VoIP services with seamless multi-radio and multistandard call handover between 4G and 3G networks.

Live demonstrations of this platform will be shown by appointment at Beceem's booth #3746 at this week's CTIA trade show.

Beceem's high-performance BCSM250 WiMAX modem provides advanced 4G wireless capabilities, including 4G-3G multi-mode and session handover as well as WiMAX-WiFi co-existence, and D2's breakthrough mCUE converged communications client provides the VoIP/SIP solution with multi-radio call handover capabilities.

Taken together, the companies provide a complete turnkey solution that gives OEMs and ODMs the key building blocks for a truly Smart 4G phone that supports simultaneous Voice/Data sessions on different radios and enables VoIP services with multi-radio and multi-standard handover capability.

"Our 4G Smartphone toolkit includes key innovations like 4G-3G multi-mode with session continuity, full performance 4G-WiFi coexistence and Mobile VoIP with imperceptible handoffs," said Lars Johnsson, vice president of marketing and business development at Beceem.

"Working with D2, our 4G toolkit now supports multi-radio voice call handover, giving developers of nextgeneration Smartphones the proven and pre-integrated 4G capabilities needed to develop nextgeneration devices that can support the unencumbered simultaneous usage of multiple applications and radios that enables 4G phones with new levels of innovation similar to the way the iPhone innovated the Smartphone category."

"With the industry now actively deploying 4G WiMAX networks globally, many service providers and manufacturers will want to leverage the high-performance of 4G and the pervasiveness of cellular networks for complete coverage," said Doug Makishima, chief operating officer at D2 Technologies.

"Together with Beceem, we are showing how hybrid 4G/3G/Cellular networks can provide the best voice call coverage through optimized multi-radio seamless voice call handoff. Going forward, we plan to extend the multi-radio capabilities of our reference design to also include 4G-LTE, and plan to utilize Beceem's BCS500 4G WiMAX/LTE solution to demonstrate VoIP handover between WiMAX and LTE."
