ASPs, mobile operators held back by inflexible and rudimentary mobile messaging platforms

POTSDAM, GERMANY: Derdack, provider of enterprise notification software and mobile messaging platforms warned that Application Service Providers (ASPs) and mobile operators risk missing out on significant revenue opportunities from mobilizing social networks, Internet and office applications by using SMS & MMS messaging. This is due to the restrictions placed on them by inflexible or rudimentary mobile messaging technology.

Matthes Derdack, MD of Derdack said: “Many ASPs are missing out on valuable opportunities to increase revenue, boost traffic and increase customer service. By upgrading to the latest mobile messaging platforms it is possible to benefit from the social network boom and to rapidly set up state-of-the-art services and applications that can make a quick impact. Mobile operators can also benefit by leveraging their existing MMS infrastructure to better exploit multimedia opportunities, e.g., by launching ‘sticky’ applications that generate new traffic and increase revenue from existing subscribers.”

Both ASPs and mobile operators share a need for applications that can generate SMS/MMS traffic and contribute to revenue growth from the outset of any deployment. Mobile messaging platforms therefore need the ability to support a rapid start to deliver immediate Return on Investment (ROI) and be capable of handling very high volumes. A key feature offered by the latest messaging solutions is that they also allow significant improvements in productivity. They can remove barriers to operational efficiency imposed by legacy technology, e.g. via a web enabled interface for one-click provisioning and the drag & drop creation of new services.

A modern mobile messaging platform will have a range of ready to run ‘killer apps’ which enable a jump start into the world of mobile messaging. One such product is message master, a mobile messaging platform with a pool of plug and play applications, e.g., Facebook SMS/MMS which effectively bridges the gap between the world’s largest social network and mobile users and thus offers vast potential for SMS/MMS traffic.

Another app exploits the Outlook Mobile Service feature by allowing users to communicate via mobile messaging from within Microsoft Outlook. Saudi ISP Sahara Net has recently upgraded to the latest version of message master and Izzeddeen Al karajeh, Web Development Supervisor commented: “We are continually looking to improve the range of services that we offer and mobile messaging applications are one of the key tools to achieve this. We are very excited by the possibilities of using Outlook Mobile Services as it blurs the boundaries between the business world and mobile communication services.”

Derdack concluded: “It is clear that ASPs and mobile operators that upgrade their mobile messaging infrastructure will equip themselves with the tools to tap into the potential offered by new business opportunities in the space of social networks and office users. With message master, users can immediately use plug and play apps or efficiently design new mobile messaging applications and services. The platform offers performance, scalability, interoperability and flexibility.”

Derdack will be exhibiting at the Mobile World Congress from the 14-17 February 2011 in Barcelona in hall 2-0, booth D26.
