AUSTIN, USA: The Wireless History Foundation (WHF) announced today the names of four individuals who will be inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame during the Foundation’s Oct. 5, 2010 dinner in San Francisco. The 2010 inductees are (in alphabetical order):
* LeRoy T. Carlson—founder and chairman emeritus of Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. and founder of U.S. Cellular, Chicago, IL.
* Edward Samuel "Ted" Rogers, Jr. (posthumously)—president and CEO of Rogers Communications Inc., who built Canada's largest communications company, Toronto, ON.
* Stanley T. Sigman—retired president and chief executive officer of AT&T Mobility , San Antonio, TX.
* Raymond C. Trott—RF engineering pioneer and founder of Trott Communications Group, Irving, TX.
The dinner will take place at the Palace Hotel the evening before the CTIA Enterprise and Applications 2010 tradeshow Oct. 6-8. In addition to honoring the new inductees, the program will also recognize the current 24 Hall of Fame members.
“This is an outstanding group of individuals who have made game-changing contributions to the development of wireless, and we are proud to include them in the Hall of Fame,” said WHF Board member Charlie Townsend, CEO of Aloha Partners.
The Wireless Hall of Fame program was originally created in 2000 by RCR Wireless News to recognize outstanding achievements across all disciplines in the wireless industry. Twenty-four individuals were inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame through 2007. WHF was formed to preserve and promote the history of wireless telecommunications and assumed administration of the Wireless Hall of Fame program in 2008.
The October 5 WHF event has wide support among corporations, organizations, and individuals including AT&T Mobility, Intel, Verizon Wireless, Cellular One-Trilogy Partners, Convergys, Ericsson, Nokia, Personal Communications Devices LLC, Sprint, Syniverse Technologies, Acta Wireless, Aircell, Aloha Partners, BilltoMobile, Interop Technologies, TARGUSinfo, T-Mobile, The Wireless Foundation, U.S. Cellular, Andrew Seybold Inc., CFE Telecom, Gemalto, GreatCall Inc., Bo Hedfors, and the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation.
