iiNet takes Celeno “down under” to support in-home Wi-Fi for IPTV service

RA’ANANA, ISRAEL: Celeno Communications, a leading provider of semiconductors for multimedia Wi-Fi home networking applications, announced that iiNet, Australia's second largest DSL broadband provider, has selected Celeno-enabled Wi-Fi Ethernet bridges to support wireless delivery of its fast-growing IPTV services, including Video on Demand (VoD) and other interactive video applications.

By entering the Australian market with iiNet, Celeno has broadened its technology reach across a range of wireless solutions spanning a range of market sectors including cable, satellite and, as in the case of iiNet, IPTV.

IPTV is experiencing significant growth worldwide and Australia is no exception. To acquire and retain market share, service providers must not only meet but surpass the existing video quality expectations of their subscribers. The Celeno-powered bridges seamlessly and reliably stream video over the Wi-Fi spectrum to enable a high quality viewing experience throughout the home.

The Celeno-enabled wireless bridge links the set-top box to the modem over a wireless connection, removing the need for expensive rewiring or running of network cables throughout the home. The fast, plug-and-play installation and set-up means that subscribers can set up and enjoy wireless video within minutes.

“With Celeno’s field-proven Wi-Fi technology, we are able to offer our customers seamless connection between their iiNet broadband and our IPTV service,” said Mr. Stephen Harley, iiNet’s chief product officer. “Our customers don’t want to worry about the cost of new wiring, and this robust, inexpensive wireless bridge has allowed us to speed up the expansion rate of our IPTV services.”

“With the iiNet implementation, Celeno’s technology continues to be the most widely-adopted method for top-tier service providers to distribute wireless in-home video to their subscribers,” says Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno. “It is clear that Celeno’s video grade Wi-Fi is consistently being equated with the highest quality user experience across a large number of screens in a home.”

iiNet’s fetchtv offers over 30 free movies a month on demand, VoD, PVR with room for 550+ hours of recorded content, a selection of TV channels to compliment free-to-air channels, and add-on options to satisfy any taste.
