Airtel intros India’s first free mobile access to Twitter

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Bharti Airtel, leading global telecommunications company with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, announced that its 170 million plus mobile customers in India will now potentially be able to access Twitter on their mobile phones for free till 1st March 2012.

This limited period Twitter offer by Airtel is a first-of-its-kind initiative in India which allows customers to enjoy free access to Twitter through web browsers (by visiting http://mobile.twitter.com) and enjoy posting Tweets, keeping up with news and what’s happening in the world, and following friends, celebrities etc,and more.

What’s more, even without activating GPRS --- Airtel mobile customers can sign up for Twitter or subscribe to SMS updates of specific users (via short code 53000) on their mobile phones free for the period of this offer.

With over 100 million active users worldwide, Twitter is an information network that instantly connects people everywhere to what's most meaningful to them. People can share and read Tweets of up to 140 characters, which can also include photos, videos or links to websites and news stories.
