Boingo adds new hotspots via China Telecom

LOS ANGELES, USA: Boingo Wireless, the Wi-Fi industry’s leading worldwide provider of software and services, can now access hotspots in all Provinces, Municipalities, and Autonomous Regions in China through a network roaming agreement with China Telecommunications Corporation, the largest wireline telecommunications and broadband services provider in China.

The partnership with China Telecom brings Boingo’s total hotspot count to over 185,000 locations globally.

This large-scale hotspot expansion through China Telecom helps Boingo address increasing user demand for Wi-Fi access in Asia Pacific, which has seen the largest growth in year over year connects among major geographic regions.

“China Telecom’s rapid and widespread deployment of Wi-Fi is nothing short of impressive,” said Dave Hagan, president and CEO for Boingo Wireless. “What’s more, their network comprises venue types -- airports, hotels, restaurants -- that our usage data show as most popular among Boingo users in Asia Pacific.”

“We’re committed to blanketing China with Wi-Fi,” said Kou Fenda, MD of Global Business Development for China Telecom. “We’ve installed best-in-class communications equipment, and we continue to pursue a network expansion strategy that will overall enable Boingo customers a quality online experience at just about every commercial hotspot in China.”

“The timing is perfect for the addition of China Telecom’s network to the Boingo footprint,” said Allen Pan, director of Asia Pacific. “Our users are really ramping up their activity in the region, and being able to expand the network to meet that demand is exciting.”

Boingo customers can get online immediately at all China Telecom Wi-Fi hotspots, which include airports, hotels, restaurants and transportation facilities in over 300 major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shenyang, Xiamen, Chengdu, Dalian, Kunming, Qingdao, Chongqing and Xi’an. Popular locations include airports, Howard Johnson and Holiday Inn hotels, KFC, McDonald’s and Starbucks cafés.

Boingo is available in 26 countries in the Asia Pacific region including Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
