Tata Sky achieves 4 million connections in India on end-to-end NDS platform

NEW DELHI, INDIA: NDS, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, today recognised Tata Sky, a leading provider of Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite pay-TV services in India, as having achieved a remarkable milestone in reaching four million connections in under three years since launch. The latest one million subscribers were gained in just over seven months.

Using technology from NDS, Tata Sky has revolutionised television viewing for Indian audiences. The platform is protected and powered by an end-to-end NDS solutions suite including VideoGuard conditional access system (CAS), MediaHighway middleware, an advanced electronic programme guide (EPG), as well as market-leading XTV technology for Digital Video Recorder (DVR) which allows subscribers to pause, record, play back, rewind and fast forward their TV programmes for viewing when they choose.

In addition, the wide range of multi-level interactive games provided by NDS has proven to be popular with subscribers. This NDS solutions portfolio enables Tata Sky to deliver advanced applications including Active Sports™, Cooking, Darshan, Wizkids, Learning, Stories, Games and movies on demand and is the basis for a viewing experience unsurpassed in the rapidly expanding Indian pay-TV market. NDS commercial and development facilities in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore all play a role in supporting Tata Sky.

Tata Sky launched its DTH satellite pay-TV service in August 2006 and reached one million connections in just 11 months. Tata Sky then took only another nine months to reach the two million connections mark and in less than three years it has reached the four million connections milestone.
