Global handset shipments to rise by 20pc to 1.43 billion in 2011 with Nokia maintaining market share above 35pc

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA: IE Market Research Corp. (IEMR), the Canadian-based provider of market intelligence services, has released its 3Q.2010 Global Handset Vendor Market Share and Forecast database.

Nizar Assanie, VP (Research) at IEMR, said: “Although the global recession led to a significant slowdown in mobile handset shipments in 2009, we expect stronger growth over the next two years especially in key Asian and African markets. Globally, we are expecting the number of mobile handset shipments to rise from 1.20 billion in 2009 to 1.43 billion in 2011, an increase of 19.2 percent from 2009 levels.”

“Intense competition continues among the largest handset vendors. In terms of market share, we forecast that Nokia will maintain its global market share of above 35 percent over the next two years, with total handset shipments of 518 million in 2011. Our model also predicts that Samsung, the second largest handset supplier in the global market, will have market share of approximately 20 percent in 2011, with handset shipments of 293 million,” he added.
