Ascom to showcase world’s first handset to exploit the power of 802.11n

MANCHESTER, UK: Ascom Wireless Solutions will showcase the world’s first handset to exploit the power of .11n standards at Manchester’s Healthcare Estates Exhibition 5th-6th October 2010. The exhibition will offer the ideal opportunity for attendees to experience the innovative Ascom i62 handset, the world’s first to support the latest 802.11n networking standard.

The new Ascom i62 combines VoWiFi, messaging and alarms into one solution for enterprise businesses using the WiFi technology. With VoWiFi, only one network needs to be installed and maintained for all applications running, such as Internet access, e-mail, voice and other business-related applications.

Mark Leppard, Sales Manager, Ascom UK comments: “The latest 802.11n standard provides the benefits of higher throughput, so when deploying the i62, our customers will not experience degradation of their network capacity when adding voice to their system. The i62 is a safe and future proof investment for our customers since more and more access points sold today work on the .11n standard.”

The new Ascom i62 VoWiFi handset replaces the previous model, the Ascom i75 and offers a new sleek design, high-resolution colour TFT display, is IP44 classified, offers a longer battery time, as well as a range of other upgrades.

As with all Ascom handsets, it can be managed over-the-air (OTA) and is tested to interoperate within a WiFi network. The design is built upon Ascom’s long experience in offering state-of-the-art, purpose-built handsets, along with wireless voice and message transmission systems and customized alarm and positioning applications for mission critical communications.

Ascom will also showcase their teleCARE IP solution, a system already established in hospitals and care homes around the world and which they have added VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). With the addition of VoIP, it is anticipated that the new voice communication features will have a positive impact on the everyday tasks facing staff in the healthcare sector, leading to efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Ascom’s broad offering of on-site wireless products and systems provides functionalities and flexible technology architecture, adding a unique user experience to Ascom’s customers.
