SINGAPORE: HP and iPass Inc., the world's largest Wi-Fi network, announced that select HP notebook and tablet PCs will include the option to access the iPass global Wi-Fi network.
Through this agreement, iPass and HP will make it simpler and more affordable for consumers in Asia Pacific and Japan to connect to the internet locally and stay connected even when they are traveling.
Customers who purchase new HP notebook and tablet PCs with this option will be able to register and automatically get access to millions of hotspots on the iPass global Wi-Fi network for one year at no additional cost. The first of HP's products with this option should be available from October 2014.

AOTMP releases 2014 state of the telecom management industry report

Ofcom CEO Ed Richards has a lot to be proud of and consumers a lot to be grateful for
UK: According to Matthew Howett, practice leader, Ovum, at the end of December 2014, Ed Richards will stand down as Chief Executive of Ofcom, a position he has held for more than 10 years.
Following his tenure, the UK now boasts some of the lowest prices for telecommunications services in Europe, together with 4G and fiber at speeds and availability levels far greater than anyone could have anticipated just a few years ago.
Nevertheless, Richards is likely to remain frustrated with the lack of progress in two particular areas. The first is the ongoing threat of litigation that has dogged the sector which has been costly both in terms of legal fees and also the time Ofcom has had to dedicate to defending its decisions.
The second is around pay-TV. Average spending among UK households has hardly fallen in the past 10 years, with some consumers even having seen real-term price increases. While there has been innovation (HD, 3D, online services, and so on), the headline here is less positive than for Ofcom’s other achievements over the past decade.
Whoever replaces Ed Richards has their work cut out over the next few years. With the looming BBC license fee renewal, concerns around premiere league TV pricing, the on-going debate about the appropriate regulation of fiber, and a new EU Commission to deal with, it’s going to be a turbulent induction process.

Intrum Justitia strengthens market position in Denmark
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK: Intrum Justitia has entered into an agreement to acquire Advis A/S, a leading credit management company in Denmark. Advis A/S is a market leader in the telecom sector, with a good presence also in the media and utility segments.
The company has about 60 employees and 2013 revenues of about 57 MDKK. During 2012 and 2013, Advis A/S has reported annual revenue growth of close to 20 percent, with EBITDA margins of about 22 percent.
“This transaction is in line with Intrum Justitia’s strategy of strengthening our credit management business through acquisitions. Through Advis A/S, we will broaden our Danish customer base, gain access to data in new client segments and improve efficiency in operations through economies of scale,” says Lars Wollung, president and CEO of Intrum Justitia.
The acquisition is expected to be completed during October. The purchase price payable at closing is 145 MDKK on a cash and debt-free basis.

Prysmian in new contract with Swiss Federal Railways
MILAN, ITALY: Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, has been awarded a new contract for a frame agreement worth approximately € 26 million by SBB CFF FFS, the Swiss Federal Railways company.
The contract includes the supply of a total of approximately 2,800 km of signalling cables for the upgrade of the Swiss railways infrastructure. The contract management will be coordinated by the Prysmian Group’s team in Switzerland; the cables will be manufactured in Germany (Berlin) and delivered on a call-off basis over a period of five years from October 2014 to the end of 2019.

With 31,000 employees, 3,175 route kilometres, more than 1 million passengers per day and 195,000 tonnes per day of freight transported every year the Swiss Federal Railways is the largest travel and transport company in Switzerland.
