NETANYA, ISRAEL: Siano, the world’s leading supplier of mobile broadcast DTV solutions, announced the launch of RallyTV, a new platform for the delivery of high-quality, live in-vehicle digital TV for consumers on-the-go. RallyTV enables travelers to enjoy live TV broadcasts directly on their smartphones, tablets, and laptops with superior reception and unrivalled mobility performance.
“RallyTV marks a significant expansion of Siano’s offering in the world of mobile TV,” said Alon Ironi, CEO of Siano. “This system is perfectly compatible with any and all smartphones, tablets and laptops on the market and eliminates the need for special hardware or software on the terminal side. Unlike 3G video streaming, RallyTV enables end-users to enjoy high quality live TV broadcasts with no cellular data charges and without inflating their data bills.
Additionally, RallyTV deploys an ultimate mobility platform that maintains high-quality, even in the harshest conditions when DTV infrastructure is far from optimal, such as in the suburbs of London or Paris.”
RallyTV simultaneously serves large numbers of end-users on public transportation, such as on trains and busses, and smaller groups riding in private vehicles. It guarantees perfect reception of broadcast MDTV signals while traveling at high speeds, allowing consumers to watch real-time live TV, including local programming, without having to install any hardware or software on their personal devices.
The importance of local programming for Mobile TV was highlighted in a recent report published by Global Industry Analysts. "Local news and sports, together with highly promoted and branded network content, will be fundamental to the mass appeal and adoption of Mobile TV, just as they have historically, and without exception, been for every major advance in television over the past half century – cable, VOD, DVR, and now Mobile TV," wrote the GIA in their report, entitled Mobile Video Services: A Global Strategic Business Report.
Connecting to RallyTV is quick and easy as all end-users need to do is connect to the RallyTV wireless network inside the vehicle and open the web browser on their personal device. Once opened, it will be automatically redirected to the RallyTV web application, where users have a choice of available channels and other convenient features. Siano will be offering the RallyTV system to automotive equipment makers as well as transportation service providers, such as train and bus management companies.
For these customers, RallyTV is not only an ideal tool for providing "in-travel" entertainment, but they can also use the system to deliver messages and alerts directly to passengers' personal mobile devices.
In addition to providing mobile device users with DTV content in locations covered by broadcast TV networks, RallyTV offers a host of value-added services for content providers, including advertising, Video-on-Demand and more.

Face recognition for mobile devices to demo at CES 2012 Wall of Apps
CES Unveiled 2012, COVERT, USA: Sensible Vision, the leading supplier of face authentication software, will demonstrate its face recognition app for iOS and Android mobile devices at the CES 2012 Wall of Apps. FastAccess Anywhere securely replaces passwords with a face to quickly and conveniently log in to apps and web sites on mobile devices.
Attendees can see FastAccess Anywhere at the Wall of Apps at the entrance of the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center during CES, January 10-13, 2012.
“We have been phenomenally successful with FastAccess for the PC, with over 5.5 million licenses sold. We developed FastAccess Anywhere to remedy the frustration of remembering and then typing passwords on a small touch screen,” said George Brostoff, CEO of Sensible Vision. “FastAccess Anywhere’s fast and fun-to-use face recognition gives people the freedom and confidence to get the most from their smartphone or tablet. They no longer have to avoid apps and websites that require passwords.”
FastAccess Anywhere installs on multiple mobile devices as well as desktops, allowing instant synchronization across iOS, Android and Windows. The app uses a combination of your face and a gesture for optimal speed and identity confirmation.
“Their user names, passwords and private information are always available—yet protected—with strong face authentication and encryption,” said Brostoff. “Unlike other face recognition solutions, FastAccess Anywhere’s security is not easily defeated by photos or videos.”
FastAccess Anywhere beta testing opportunities are available for qualified Android and iOS users.

Mobile handset shipments reach 162 million units in India
DUBLIN, IRELAND: Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "India Handset Shipments, Vendor Market Share, Strategies and Key Trends Q3'2011" report to its offering.
The India Handset Shipments, Vendor Market Share, Strategies and Key Trends Q3'2011 report provides an in-depth assessment of handset shipments, vendor market share, strategies and key trends in Q3'2011 for the mobile handsets industry in India. Mobile handset shipments in India have been increasing and they were highest in 2010 with 146.93 million units.
The shipments in 2011 are expected to reach all time high as the shipment for three quarters in 2011 is 125.32 million units. By the end of Q4'2011, a yearly figure of 162 million units is expected. India has been one of the major players in the Asia Pacific handset shipments, and since 2009, India has been able to capture more than 20 percent of the overall Asia Pacific shipments.
There has been quarter on quarter growth in the handset shipments in India barring a few exceptions in two quarters. Local manufacturing has been very beneficial for mobile handset makers in India and many Indian players are manufacturing the product locally. All the other players, who do not have the local manufacturing, are planning to start the manufacturing to get away with the problems of currency exchange rates and supply side spikes.
Nokia has been the top player in the Indian mobile handset market and it has achieved a market share of 29.44 percent in 2011 for all the three quarters. Nokia has been losing its share to new entrants and local players in the Indian market. Samsung is coming strongly and it is in the second place with 14.34 percent market share. The share of Samsung is up by 14.63 percent from 2010.
Though all the players are trying to gain market share, Nokia is still way above all of them and it will take a long time before anyone else can take the lead position. Local players, such as Micromax, Maxx, Lava and Videocon are gaining market share and most of them have launched low cost phones with features such as dual-SIM, long battery life etc. Local players also have the advantage of local manufacturing.

US telecom industry revenues total $750 billion
DUBLIN, IRELAND: Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "US Telecom Industry Assessment & Forecasts 2011-2020" report to its offering.
The US Telecom industry is a complex business with numerous segments, which has undergone strong growth over the past ten years. Recent history has manifested significant change with extensive mergers and a rapid flow of technologies supporting faster speeds, broader coverage and expanded market penetration.
The next 10 years are going to bring with it even more change and challenges. New technologies such as LTE are crowding out old and the industry matures as it approaches maximum market penetration. Repeating the strong growth of the past 10 years will be a challenge as mergers yield higher consolidation and concentration of players. Nevertheless, the rapid flow of new technologies and change will continue to grow opportunities and present a stable of opportunities through innovation.
Revenues across all segments within the industry presently total almost $750 billion and are expected to grow about +3.9% per year through the year 2020 to reach almost $1.2 trillion in revenue. As penetration of a number of telecom categories reaches over 90 percent, growth over the next ten years is likely to slow to half the rate of the previous 10 years; but the business should add $40 billion per year for the next 10 years.

ADTRAN Total Access 1600 packs high-density fiber-to-the-home punch into small form factor
HUNTSVILLE, USA: ADTRAN Inc., a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, added the Total Access 1600 series to its industry-leading Fiber to the Home (FTTH) portfolio.
The new Total Access 1600 is a family of 1RU form-factor optical line terminals (OLTs) supporting either Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) or Ethernet FTTH (Active Ethernet). These OLTs provide a compact addition to ADTRAN’s FTTH product line, offering an efficient solution for deployments with lower subscriber densities where lower port-counts are required. While the new solutions occupy less space, they are not limited when it comes to functionality, offering 40Gbps per system network uplink capability, Ethernet ring support, multi-system link aggregation, and stacking options.
“The market for bandwidth intensive applications has pushed deeper into the Tier 2 and 3 markets with more and more IOCs and smaller telecom operators looking at equipment that helps them compete effectively in this demanding market,” said David Emberley, Research Manager for IDCs Telecommunications Equipment practice. “The ADTRAN Total Access 1600 should be a welcome addition to these operators given its value proposition, compact size and service density.”
The Total Access 1600 family enables deployments to fit any network need by providing multiple cost optimized access-side interface options: 4, 8, and 16-port GPON and 48-port Gigabit Ethernet. Full backward compatibility with the entire Total Access line of Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) ensures a smooth transition for service providers interested in expanding FTTH service coverage further into their existing network or incrementally offering the service into new areas.
In addition, ADTRAN’s award winning Service Management System, provides service level management for the entire Total Access portfolio of Broadband Access solutions, simplifying the management of broadband services while decreasing the associated operational costs.
“The Total Access 1600 is the right solution to address the needs of service providers of all sizes that are looking to offer fiber based broadband access services but have small and/or space constrained serving locations,” said Darrell Brown, ADTRAN Broadband Access product line manager. “As part of ADTRAN’s complete Total Access family of products, the Total Access 1600 is optimized to meet deployment needs and keep costs to a minimum – a valuable asset in today’s market as customers look to maximize service offerings and minimize capital expense.”
